How To Teach A Dog To Roll Over And Play Dead
Training a dog to roll over to train dog to play dead:
Teaching a dog to roll over onto its side is not only a nice trick, but is useful for grooming, veterinary examinations or for nail clipping. Training a dog to roll over like any form of dog training should be fun for the owner and dog and learning to train dog to play dead is one of the funniest dog tricks!
Follow the steps below to train your dog to roll over:
1. Hold a food treat firmly in your hand and show this to your dog and hold it near its nose, then gently place your dog into the down position and kneel down beside it.

2. Keep firm hold of the food treat and encourage your dog to follow the treat aiming for it to follow through to its elbow - the dog's hindquarters should start to roll over.
3.Then slowly move the food treat towards the shoulder that is closest to you - your dog should now be fully rolled over onto its side.
4. Move the hand with the food treat towards the ground until your dog's head rests flat on the floor. Your dog should now be fully on its side with its head flat. Immediately give the food treat to your dog and say the words you wish to use for this roll over and play dead command, eg flat, dead, play dead.
5. Repeat the roll over and play dead exercise several times a day until your dog learns the actions, gradually weaning it from the food treat.
