Dog Eating Faeces

Dog Eating Faeces is the great unanswered question - why on earth do dogs eat their own and other dog's faeces!? I have no idea and I am afraid Flat Coated Retrievers fall into the category of eating their own and other dog's poo (it's called coprophagia). Apart from not being nice and making your dog smell dog eating faeces can be a health risk if, for instance the dog faeces are infected with worms. Fortunately, there are a few ways to avoid dogs eating faeces:


• In an ideal world every dog owner would clear up after their dog has had a toilet - then there would be less mess in our beautiful parks, by the seaside and on the street - and less poo for dogs with this dog eating faeces disgusting habit to eat! Most Councils provide free doggy bags or you can buy special bags or a pooper scooper.







Whilst my four legged companion sat beside me I wrote a book which tells the story of The Drummer Boy. This novel is about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

• Try giving your dog a small piece of pineapple or courgette each day - they dislike the taste of this in faeces. This should stop your dog eating faeces.





• Purchase a muzzle: your dog will still be able to run around the beach, field, park etc quite happily and you need not worry about the dog eating faeces. It will also stop your dog poking about at dead animals and in other places you would rather its nose did not get into!
