History of Dogs: Dogs are descended from the family of Canidae - beasts of prehistoric prey from about 600 million years ago. Their earliest ancestor was the Cynodictis, a short legged, sabre tailed and long bodied creature. The wolves and foxes also descended from the Cynodictis.
Whilst my four legged companion sat beside me I wrote a book which tells the story of The Drummer Boy
. This novel is about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.
Chapters take place in modern day Aberdeen, at the Noose & Monkey bar and restaurant as well as His Majesty’s Theatre and Garthdee. Other scenes take place at Tidworth and during the Napoleonic War.

It is thought that as early as the Neolithic period in Denmark man used to throw scraps of meat to the wild dogs that gathered around their campfires. Man then saw their use as protectors and hunters, thus forging an early friendship that exists to this day in the history of dogs.
Throughout the years in the history of dogs, man had bred various characteristic and behavioural traits into dogs so that they will fulfil various roles such as herding, hunting, catching vermin, guarding and companionship.
